Sky Lounge 3.5
Cancun, Mexico
Execution and interior design. Project by Karim Rashid
2017
Completed
1900 m²
Located inside the touristic complex Temptation Resort Cancun designed by Karim Rashid, our main challenge was to create a space that followed the flow of freedom and spatial sensuality with which Temptation Resort was originally designed. As a result we got the lounge situated on the 7th floor of the Temptation tower; with sensual and organic shapes, the design was inspired by the Caribbean Sea, the sky and Epicureanism. The bar’s style was consistent with the avant-garde, open and daring style characteristic of the resort. While it’s a regular lounge area during the day, at night it turns into a bustling meeting point.
At night the space functions as an open discoteque starring the night breeze and direct view of the Caribbean Sea, reminiscing the visitors of a live painting. In the Sky Lounge you can find: a pool, a lounge area, a resting area, a solarium and a DJ booth. We selected innovative materials such as the mosaics of the countertop and ceiling, made out of digitally-printed flexible resin, which allows the integration of curves to its design, giving off a metallic appearance. As the day goes by, the light hitting the surface gives off different hues. Additionally, we used marble, porcelain and mosaics made out of recycled-crystal.
